Becoming a Speaker
Growing up I always had the intention and desire to speak for myself and others. I applied to deliver a speech at each graduation or milestone growing up and was always beat out (honestly - by the same person each time - Hi, Rachael). I was told time and again that I had a well-written speech, but my stage presence wasn’t there. The conclusion was to adapt my speech for the chosen speaker and I’d sit in the crowd listening to someone else deliver my words.
I went on a journey of developing my skills. I didn’t want my words to come from someone else. I worked hard at taking speech classes, learning to be vulnerable in front of a crowd, and stating my opinions in front of people who didn’t agree.
Years later, I’m still on my journey of developing as a speaker. To date, I’ve spoken at national conferences and universities which empowers me to continue to share my knowledge at scale.
